raced on the beach, to today with Daytona International Speedway, Daytona has been a motor sports Mecca. The 480-acre Speedway offers seating for 250,000 screaming race fans, and hosts a number of events throughout the year.
The first two weeks of the NASCAR Winston Cup season are traditionally held at Daytona. These "speedweeks" offer fans a time to watch their favorite drivers test their vehicles, and qualify for the first event of the season, the Daytona 500. This legendary race is sometime called the Super Bowl of NASCAR racing, and is a tradition that started before before World War II.
Adjacent to the track, near turn 4 (for you race fans), is the Ultimate Motorsports Attraction: Daytona USA. Come on in and take an up close look at the "World Center of Racing." Tour the track, see how the NASCAR Winston Cup cars are made, and even test your skills at the pit crew challenge. Or while at the track, test your skills at the Richard Petty Driving Experience. You can ride along with a professional driver at Daytona International Speedway, or drive your self at one of NASCAR's many other tracks. Daytona Beach isn't just centered around the speedway & racing, there is much more to do & see while in Daytona. The beach, for one thing, is an experience one will never forget. The racing tradition is still alive, you can drive on 18 miles of Daytona's beaches. While in the area, visit the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse. This lighthouse, built in 1887, still serves as a guide to passing ships to warn them of the shallow waters & reefs along Ponce Inlet. Climb to the top and experience amazing views of nearby Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. Daytona is home to many yearly activities which draw people from every imaginable walk of life. Every spring, thousands of college students storm the beach for their annual Spring Break. For the entire month of March, the beaches & hotels are packed. If you like to party, this would be the time to go to Daytona and its surrounding neighbors. The first two weeks of March draw another element to the Daytona Beach area. An event called Bike Week draws motorcyclists from around the United States. This ten day festival extends throughout Volusia County and is a great place to meet fellow motorcycle enthusiasts. A similar event is held each year in October. Biketoberfest features a variety of activities Main Street & Beach Street rally exhibits, vendors, shows, and music. There is also Championship Motorcycle Road Racing at Daytona International Speedway. During this festival food is abundant, so be sure to bring your loose fitting leather. If motorcycles aren't your fetish, enjoy classic cars at Daytona International Speedway's many car shows. The Turkey Run, held every Thanksgiving, hosts over 5000 cars, ranging from 1930 street rods, to 1970 muscle cars. The five days of the show offers car enthusiasts everything, browse through others vehicles, buy parts at the swap meet, or even buy a car of your own at the car coral. A smaller event, held in March, offers the same great fun, only on a smaller scale. The Speedway Spectacular car show and swap meet is usually the last weekend in March and held at Daytona International Speedway on the infield. ![]() Or if you like golf, Daytona is the place for you. There are 14 challenging courses in the Daytona Beach area, and many golf vacation packages. Also, the LPGA International course, and LPGA headquarters reside in Daytona.
